Troy Alexander Haywood

Troy Haywood is choreographer and educator based in Charlotte, North Carolina. At an early age, Troy discovered his passion for performing through musical theater but didn't begin formal training as a dancer until 2004. Immediately being involved in a competitive company, Troy began training over 40 hours a week in tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, modern, ballet, acrobatics, and hip-hop which led him to thrive at competitions across the United States. Throughout his competitive years he was seen and adjudicated by some of the world’s greatest teachers and choreographers and won many top honors at competitions and conventions across the country.

After graduating high-school Troy relocated to Miami, Florida where he spent five years working as dancer, aerialist, and acrobat with Royal Caribbean International. During his downtime between contracts, Troy choreographed and performed in independent music videos and company shows, taught, and judged at multiple regional conventions, and fell deeply in love with a different side of dance: creating.

Upon moving back home to Charlotte in 2011, Troy dedicated his career solely to choreography and teaching. Since then, his dynamic teaching style and commercially driven choreography has traveled him to some of the most beautiful countries in the world as well as all of the major hubs in the nation. After spending most of his 20’s working bi-coastally on his thirtieth birthday, Troy took the plunge and moved to his work to Los Angeles, California. Almost immediately, he signed with Movement Talent Agency as a dancer and choreographer and began working full time as a certified yoga instructor, quickly selling out classes at one of the city’s most prominent yoga franchises, Hot8Yoga. His work has gone on to be seen and awarded on competitive stages, the big and small screen, mega-churches, the NBA courts, and some of the hottest venues all over the United States.

Troy is now settled back in at home in Charlotte, NC working on faculty at Academy of Dance and Fine Arts and as a highly sought after adjudicator, choreographer, and guest instructor across the nation. As always, Troy is honored and humbled to have the ability to remain hands on in training the professionals of yesterday, today, and tomorrow and hopes to continue educating children, teenagers, and adults alike in as many capacities as possible. He is also currently on the roster of dance competition judges with Impact Dance Adjudicators. Want to know more about Troy, his work and what he’s up to next?
